After effects is really bloody big. I planned to count up all the effects native to the software but at around the 30 mark I realised this was a terrible use of my time. Suffice to say there are lots.
Unless you’re Andrew Kramer, the authentic After Effects experience will likely consist of finding the twenty or so effects you’ll use daily and then wandering what the hell CC Ball Action is (and why they would name it that?)
I’m no motion graphics guru, but I’d like to be, so I’ve decided to continue waging war on my free time by shining a torch into the dusty recesses of the After Effect library and working out what all these effects do and how to use them properly.
I’ll be covering your daily use utility effects right through to CC Mercury (who knows?). So go and dig through this series if you want to beef up your After Effects knowledge, or if you simply want to judge me for not knowing what the hell CC Mr Smoothie means (I think they’re just mocking us at this point).
These articles are all about the main course technical stuff, so check out my ‘what to do with’ series for desert (desert being inspiration, you’ll see).
